Anonymous Donation
During the summer, we received a very handsome gift – over £1,300 was anonymously donated to The Manchester Chorale.
It was immediately put to good use by our Musical Director who used it to buy music for the choir. Jill must have spent a long time deliberating over how to spend it. She has chosen music that extends our repertoire of living composers (Gjeilo, Chydenenius, Chilcot, Lauridsen), a book of Russian Chorale Masterpieces, a couple of cheeky pieces by Poulenc and the delightful Coffee Time by Anton Leanderson-Andreas (aka Ant, probably, for short, who is also living). Anton is another member of the Swedish group Vocado, two of whom wrote Hold Me Fast, also in our repertoire. I can see these two pieces in the same concert after the Christmas hullabaloo. Both very tricky rhythmically, but great tunes and very rewarding for us and the audience.
Whoever donated this money has done us a big favour – all this fantastic music will make fantastic concerts. Come and sing with us or come and listen to us, and I hope Mr/Mrs Anonymous come and hear us too (or maybe they already sing with us – intriguing).
