Choral Music at St Mary's

It's not so much the music that's local, but the music makers are. Our rehearsal venue at St Matthew's Church Hall, Stretford is not far at all from Davyhulme.

We have a very varied programme for you!
There are pieces by Bob Chilcott, (former King's Singer and increasingly well-known choral composer) - 'My Heart's Friend', and 'Come Back'; a selection of Scandinavian songs - Jussi Chydenius's 'Deep in the Night' (with advice from the composer to make it 'funky but poetic') and a couple of catchy Swedish numbers - 'Hold me Fast' and 'Coffee Time' plus a song by Norwegian Ole Gjeilo. There are a couple of Jazz Folk Songs arranged by Chilcott - a Children's song from Northern Ireland 'Tell my Ma' ('funky' again!)  and ' House of the Rising Sun' ('bluesy').
In  complete contrast there are two Russian Orthodox songs (one by Rachmaninov) and Morten Lauridsen's 'O Magnum Mysterium' plus a pair of his beautiful songs from his settings of Rilke's 'Les Chansons des Roses'.
